His Shield Charm was so strong Snape was knocked off-balance and hit a desk. The whole class had looked round and now watched as Snape righted himself, scowling.

' Do you remember me telling you we are practising non-verbal spells, Potter ?'

' Yes,' said Harry stiffly.

' Yes, sir.'

' There is no need to call me "sir", Professor.'

The words have escaped him before he knew what he what saying.

' Detention, Saturday night, my office,' said Snape. ' I do not take cheek from anyone, Potter... not even the Chosen One.'

Harry looked back down at his results. They were as good as he could have hoped for. He felt just one twinge of regret... this was the end of his ambition to become an Auror. He had not secured the required Potions grade. He had known all along that he would'nt, but he still felt a stinking in his stomach as he looked again at that small black "E".

It was odd, really, seeing that it had been a Death Eater in disguise who had first told Harry he would make a good Auror, but somehow the idea had taken hold of him, and he couldn't really think of anything else he would like to be.
